Great for read-aloud and discussion!

MY ESCAPE FROM SLAVERY by Frederick Douglass (MP3 audio / PDF)
Frederick Douglass was an American abolitionist,
women's suffragist,
editor, orator, author, statesman and reformer, and is one of the most
prominent figures
in African American and United States history.
In this Audio reading, he shares a story he held back for many years -
just how he escaped from his slave masters and gained his freedom.
Included is both an MP3 Audio version of the speech,
along with a
PDF transcription.
PLUS...
CAST DOWN YOUR BUCKET WHERE YOU ARE by Booker T. Washington
An
audio reading of one of the most famous and widely circulated
speeches that Washington ever gave, on using what you have,
where you
are, to make a difference in the lives of those around you.
Included is both an MP3 Audio version of the
speech, along with a
PDF transcription.

Wednesday, Feb 17th:
INDIAN CHILD LIFE (PDF ebook)
Great
autobiographical story book of the authors' experiences growing up as a
plains Indian in the 1800s, detailing many
of the day to day experiences, chores,
games and lifestyle1 of Indian boys and girls during that period.
Fast-moving
& VERY well written account -- with some additional stories of
Indian children included. Excellent "living history"!
---------
Thursday,
Feb 18th:
DISNEYLAND DREAM (streaming video)
In July 1956, the five-member Barstow family of Wethersfield, Connecticut,
won a free trip to newly-opened Disneyland in Anaheim, California,
in a nationwide contest. This 30-minute amateur
documentary film tells the
fabulous story of their fun-filled, dream-come-true, family travel adventure,
filmed
on the scene at Walt Disney's "Magic Kingdom" by Robbins Barstow.
In December 2008, this delightful film
was named to the National Film Registry
by the Librarian of Congress. Wonderful "real life" trip back into
the 1950s!
